The Clothesline Project
30 / 04 / 10
The Clothesline Project was developed in 1990, as a tool to create awareness of violence against women, as well as to involve its community members. Victims of violence, as well as the friends and families of victims, are invited to come forward to design a t-shirt that creates awareness of the effects this violence has on its victims. These shirts are displayed at the main event for all community members to view. This event creates an opportunity to break the silence and provides a voice to victims who have been largely impacted by these horrific acts.
The community Clothesline Project takes place every year at Minto Park, on the corner of Elgin St and Gilmore St. This year it will be held on Sunday, May 30th from 11am – 4pm.
The Women and Violence team will be hosting an evening of pizza and shirt decorating in preparation for The Clothesline Project. This will take place Monday, May 17th from 5pm-7pm. To register or for more information please contact Natalie Hopkin at ext. 173.
The month of May is Sexual Assault Prevention Month. The Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre will be displaying information and resources, in the reception area, on sexual assault to create awareness in our community. For further information or resources you may contact a member of the Women & Violence team.
